Father charged with OVI after child struck in stroller

Police have confirmed that they are pursuing an OVI charge against the father of a child who was struck while in a stroller Sunday evening.

Christopher E. Holloway II is the father of the 10-month-old girl who while sitting in a stroller was struck by an open car door on Nicholas Road, according to Dayton police.

Holloway is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

NewsCenter 7’s Kate Bartley spoke with the child’s mother today. The baby is doing fine and has some scrapes and bruises on her face and leg.

The mother called it a “freak accident.”

According to the traffic crash report, Christopher Holloway, 28, of Allen Street in Dayton, was cited for failure to control.

Holloway was inside a vehicle parked in the driveway, and was reportedly attempting to change a CD when he lost control of the vehicle and it traveled backward.

The right car door and passenger side of the car hit a 10-month-old girl who was seated in a stroller.

The child lives at the Nicholas Road residence with her mother.

UPDATE @ 8:45 p.m. (March 27)

A 911 caller said she saw a 10-month-old girl under a car across the street.

“The car was backing out the driveway and the door of the car was open. … The door knocked the stroller over and the baby was in the stroller and it’s up under the car,” the witness told a dispatcher.

The caller said the baby was pulled out from under the car. The baby was being held and was crying, she said.

FIRST REPORT

A baby in a stroller suffered an apparent traumatic injury this evening when a car ran over the stroller.

Police and medics were called around 6:20 p.m. to the 3000 block of Nicholas Road.

The stroller was hit when a car backed out of a driveway, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center. The 10-month-old child was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital.
