Fire official closes Hotel Dayton because of damage from heavy rains

The Hotel Dayton has been closed for tonight because of water damage from the heavy rains that hit the area.

Battalion Chief Terry Overton, Harrison Twp., said roof contractors were working and did not anticipate the coming storms.

The heavy rains sent water through the roof, into the ceiling and onto wires in the building, so power to the hotel is being shut off and the facility is being closed for the night, Overton said.

A manager said there are no guests because of renovations.

Overton is estimating the damage to the structure at $25,000.

Fire crews were dispatched to the hotel, 2301 Wagner Ford Road, Harrison Twp., just before 8 p.m. on the report of a roof collapse.

Overton said contractors will have to be called in to clean up the damage and replace wiring.
