Hamilton sidewalks will be open during Robert Redford movie shoot

Sidewalks along High Street in Hamilton will remain open during the filming of “The Old Man and the Gun” today and Friday, City Manager Joshua Smith said.

“If you want to go to High Street Cafe and have lunch (Thursday) or Friday, you certainly can take the sidewalk and do that,” he said.

“Any of those areas where there’s sidewalks and those streets are closed, (the sidewalks) certainly will be open, as will the retail shops and the offices,” Smith added. “That’s important to get that out, because I’ve had several of the restaurants call me … because they were concerned that we were going to do that. That is not accurate.”

Only one business will have its High Street entrance closed, but it will be open, with access through its other entrance. That business is the First Financial Bank at 300 High St., an official said.

High Street is set to reopen around 10 p.m. Friday.

Smith said the filming crews have paid for police and public works overtime, and there will be “police staff at key intersections to keep traffic flowing during those two days of closures. I think primarily we will be staffed during the heavy rush hours during the morning and the evening, maybe not 24 hours a day, but certainly when the traffic is heavy we’ll have the officers out there.”
