St. Patrick’s Day OVI checkpoint tonight

St. Patrick’s Day festivities would not be complete without OVI checkpoints.

A sobriety checkpoint is from 8 p.m. to midnight on Ohio 725 near Paragon Road in Washington Twp., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced this afternoon.

So far this year, there have been 19 arrests for impaired driving at the planned location in Montgomery County, and last year there were 110 arrests, including 14 involving crashes, according to the sheriff’s office.

An OVI checkpoint on Thursday in Oxford, which coincided with the annual Green Beer Day in the college town, led to one driver’s arrest for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Hamilton Post.

During the checkpoint, 689 vehicles traveled through with only the one driver diverted to the testing area. Patrols in the area made four additional four OVI arrests and led to nine seat belt citations, one underage consumption citation, six moving violation citations and one drug citation, the patrol reported.

The Oxford checkpoint was held by the highway patrol in conjunction with the Butler County OVI Task Force, Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Oxford, Miami University and Oxford Twp. police departments.
