2 horses die in Spring Valley Twp. barn fire

UPDATE @ 8:50 a.m.

Firefighters said two horses died but several more were able to escape a large barn fire in Spring Valley Township Saturday morning.

Crews from several jurisdictions in Greene County were dispatched to the 1400 block of Lower Bellbrook Road around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on a reported fully involved barn fire.

Spring Valley Township Fire Chief Marvin Moeller said several horses were inside the barn when the fire broke out and most were able to escape the blaze. Two horses though were not able to make it out and died in the fire.

Moeller said the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and the state fire marshal’s office has been requested to investigate.

The dollar amount of damage has also not been determined due to several pieces of farm equipment that were also destroyed in the fire.

Crews are expected to be on scene until the early afternoon hours.

No injuries were reported.
