Those behind the young Huber Heights Performing Arts Hall of Fame have added a second night of recognition festivities with a performance showcase highlighting the talents of the 2017 inductees.

“The Friday night showcase gives the inductees the opportunity to perform here at the Performing Arts Center at Wayne High School,” said David Thomas, president of the hall of fame’s board and the high school’s theater manager.

Those unable to perform or being honored posthumously will be seen in videos of their work, Thomas said.

The showcase is scheduled for March 10, followed by the induction March 11.

The Hall of Fame’s eight-member inaugural class is saluted in a display on the brick wall outside the performing arts center. The display features photos of each inductee along with a very brief biography and will grow along with the hall of fame membership.

“The purpose basically is to recognize those individuals who either lived or worked or went to school in Huber Heights or Wayne Twp. school that have made some kind of significant mark in the performing arts area — a musician, a singer, a technician, anything having to do with the performing arts. It could be a videographer, director, those who do choir, band, drama, cinematography,” Thomas said.

Jerry Seiple, a member of the inaugural class, was a longtime district teacher and directed or produced 100 plays/musicals at the school. He also is on the hall’s board.

“We have plenty of nominations to work with,” he said. Organizers said nominations are taken year ‘round, as are donations.

The newest board member is city resident Jan Vargo. “I think letting the community know how many wonderful, talented people have come through this community, might encourage those in city to become more involved,” she said.

The 2017 class has 12 inductees with three being inducted posthumously. Class members are:
