Huber Heights steps closer to hiring additional records employee

Part-time employee would assist in handling public requests, digitizing records.

Huber Heights is moving forward with a plan to hire a part-time records clerk to assist with an increase in records requests.

Council recently asked staff to prepare a plan for bringing such an employee aboard, following what Clerk of Council Anthony Rodgers said is an influx of complex records requests.

“That’s not atypical with some of these requests to have several hours invested,” Rodgers said at a council work session this week.

The part-time position will earn approximately $14.09 to $21.89 per hour, said Human Resources Director Kathryn Kinsley.

“We’re making it hourly, so there will be no vacation or benefits, it’ll be strictly wages,” Kinsley said, noting not many cities have such a position.

Council members expressed openness to hiring such an employee, so long as they receive assurance a 20-hour-a-week position is needed.

“To put 20 more hours in the workforce here, it would be good to have a 20-hour job outlined,” said Mayor Tom McMasters.

The employee would report to Rodgers, who said the employee could additionally assist city staff with digitizing records from various departments in the city and making them accessible online.

Rodgers has said the city routinely receives “requests that involve thousands of emails over a period of time,” which requires someone to look at each individual email to determine if any redactions must be made.
