Nationwide search for escaped Tri-County Regional Jail inmate

Escaped inmate Staling Santos-Reyes remains loose. He had been on a work detail in the jail at the time of his escape. He was on trash duty, and was being escorted outside by jail staff when he fled on foot, according to a media release.

He scaled a fence during his escape.

Santos-Reyes is a 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs approximately 140 pounds. He is 40 years old and his

last known address is 1291 and ½ Sheridan Avenue, Bronx, New York.

The search has expanded to nationwide.

The man who escaped from the Tri-County Regional Jail remains on the run, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

The office adds several units remain on the roads looking for Staling Santos-Reyes.

Residents should remain vigilant and keep their doors and windows locked, according to dispatchers.

The inmate who escaped from the Tri-County Regional Jail is Staling Santos-Reyes, who was in jail on a $300,000 bond from a Madison County case.

According to Champaign County sheriff's dispatch, the search for Santos-Reyes continues throughout the area surrounding the facility.

Details about what happened are not available, according to the dispatcher, but Santos-Reyes was reported to have escaped about 5:40 p.m.

According to the jail's online records, Santos-Reyes, 40, was in jail on felony charges of possession of criminal tools and drug possession. He has a May 2 court date.

INITIAL REPORT

A search is continuing for an escaped inmate from the Tri-County Regional Jail in Mechanicsburg, Champaign County.

The Champaign County Sheriff's Office is advising county residents living near the facility to remain indoors. A dispatcher said it is not immediately known if the inmate has violent tendencies.

We learned about the escape just after 7 p.m. and very little information has been released about the situation.

The jail houses inmates from Champaign, Union and Madison counties.
