Kettering lands $40 million tax windfall

The City of Kettering has landed a $40 million estate tax distribution, the largest ever in Montgomery County.

City officials were notified of the windfall by county Auditor Karl Keith.

Keith notified City of Kettering officials on Nov. 14 that the city is due an additional $40 million estate tax distribution from the largest estate tax payment ever received by Montgomery County. Officials did not name the individual.

The record distribution will be one of the last because the State of Ohio eliminated the estate tax this year.

The city of Kettering has received an average of $3 million a year due to the tax. City Manager Mark Schwieterman said the funds will go, consistent with existing policy, into the city’s capital improvement fund.
