Local city and villages among those with most gay couples

Dayton is the fourth gayest city in Ohio and Yellow Springs is the state’s gayest village, according to information compiled by a Columbus-based research group.

Lynnette Cook, Community Research Partners’ executive director, said her organization strives to help community groups and non-profits better understand data.

“It’s just a little bit of information that we hope sparks conversation,” she said.

South Lebanon in Warren County is third among villages. Granville in Licking County is second on that list behind Greene County’s Yellow Springs.

Columbus tops the largest cities list followed by Cleveland, Lakewood, Dayton and Canton.

The gayest community list released Thursday is based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2008–2012 American Community Survey five-year estimates.

Community Research Partner is a non-profit that resulted from a partnership between the Ohio State University, United Way of Central Ohio, Franklin County and the city of Columbus.

The group disseminates data related to topics ranging from the minimum wage to housing.

“We are data geeks and we want people to be interested in data,” Cook said. “Our mission is to inform community level decision making.”
