But we’ve also lost an Oregon District favorite: Corner Kitchen, a popular spot that Jack and Natalie Skilliter opened in 2015, has closed.
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we write this, but we cannot ignore the situation in which we find ourselves. We are officially closing Corner Kitchen indefinitely,” the Skilliters wrote.

New
Fino Sur Peruvian Street Food

A new restaurant that brings the flavor-packed street food of Peru to the Miami Valley has opened in the Cross Pointe Centre in Centerville.
The restaurant is the brainchild of Alberto Arenas and his family. Arenas has worked for several years in the local restaurant industry, including as a manager at El Toro Bar & Grill. Last year, he provided some of his Peruvian street-food specialties at Dayton’s Hispanic Heritage Festival.
The menu includes Anticuchos combo plates, which offer skewers of marinated chicken or pork anointed with chalaca and chimichurri sauces. The Salmon Anticuchero offers a different preparation, featuring a grilled salmon filet laid upon a bed of salsa served with quinoa salad and cherry tomatoes. Appetizers include Empanadas and Yuca Frites.

Bibibop Asian Grill

Columbus-based Bibibop has opened its 39th location at 5225 Cornerstone North Blvd. at The Cornerstone of Centerville.
The new restaurant takes over the space that previously housed MOD Pizza, which shut down in September 2019.
Bibibop Asian Grill was founded in Columbus in 2013. Its distinctive name is derived from the popular Korean dish, “bibimbap,” which translates into “mixed rice.” Its restaurants offer a fast-casual, build-your-own service concept similar to Chipotle or Subway. Diners choose from purple or white rice for their bowl, or have their dish prepared as a salad or wrap, then select from chicken, beef or tofu, and then top their dish from a variety of vegetables and garnishes.

Condado Tacos is now hiring for all positions at its first Dayton-area restaurant coming to The Greene Town Center. A spokeswoman for the Columbus-based restaurant chain said Condado Tacos is on schedule to open at 4482 Glengarry Drive sometime in July.
The Columbus-based restaurant chain, which opened its first restaurant in 2014, now has 16 locations in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and Detroit.
Condado Tacos says it specializes in creating “unique tacos, guacamole, tequila and margaritas at affordable prices. Fresh, high-quality ingredients including salsas, toppings, proteins and tortilla chips — all made from scratch daily — are staples to Condado’s cuisine.”
Grind House Coffee & Tea Company

Bill Miller, the president and CEO of Grind House Coffee & Tea Company, announced on his company’s Facebook page that he will be opening a coffee shop in the Wright Dunbar neighborhood that will offer coffee, pastries, tea, bagged coffee and ice cream.
The new shop is coming to 1000 W. Third St., and it could open as early as September, Miller said. The 2,000-square-foot space will eventually, after coronavirus social-distancing restrictions are lifted, seat 30 inside and about 15 outside, or about half those capacities under the current restrictions. The new shop is expected to create 12 to 15 new part-time and full-time jobs, Miller said.

Basils on Market (Beavercreek)

Basil’s founders are gearing up to expand with a new restaurant near the front entrance of the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek.
The new restaurant is scheduled open in July, its owners said.
Amidst the expansion and other changes, Basil’s on Market’s first two locations, in Troy and in downtown Dayton, reopened their dining rooms and patios last month, and a popular all-you-can-eat crab special is now offered at both locations.
Hannah’s Southern Bistro

The Miami Valley’s newest southern-inspired restaurant, Hannah’s Southern Bistro, is scheduled to host its grand opening July 8, and will start serving its specialties on July 1 during a one-week “soft opening,” its founder announced in June on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
The new restaurant is located in the Miami Valley Centre Mall in Piqua, and its founder, Tommy McCoy, is a 2003 graduate of Piqua High School.
The “soft opening” limited menu includes Hannah’s Southern Bistro’s signature Gator Bites, made from breaded and seasoned chunks of gator tail served with house-made “swamp sauce;” Catfish Nugget Dinner; Southern Chicken Strip Basket, chicken tenders breaded in Cajun-style seasoning; Buffalo Shrimp; Pulled Pork Nacho, slow-cooked pork shoulder with house-made queso, diced tomatoes and house-pickled jalapenos over tortilla chips drizzled with regular or spicy barbecue sauce; Cowboy’s Cheese Steak, prime rib of beef sauteed with peppers, onions and mushrooms; and the HSB Classic Burger, two Angus beef patties on a toasted brioche roll topped with cheddar cheese. Sides include Bakes Mac & Cheese, Collard Greens and Loaded Tots.

Corner Kitchen, the popular Oregon District restaurant that opened in July 2015 under the direction of the husband-and-wife team of Jack and Natalie Skilliter, is shutting down indefinitely, its owners wrote on Corner Kitchen’s Facebook page, June 29.
The restaurant at 613 E. Fifth St. at Wayne Avenue had reopened on June 19 with a new business and service model and a significantly revamped menu.
The couple said they will “cherish all of the memories that our community shared with us. We are sorry that we couldn't do more, and we are utterly heartbroken, we will miss all of you – we will miss the joy that you brought to our lives. Thank you for helping make our dream come true.”

The first half of 2020 has been a busy and somewhat tumultuous one for Basil’s on Market, which is contracting, tweaking and expanding in a span of a few months.
The locally owned and independent restaurant group confirmed it has shut down its Piqua operations permanently due primarily to the coronavirus pandemic and the two-month-long state-mandated shutdown of dine-in services.
The changes come as Basil’s founders also gear up to expand with a new restaurant near the front entrance of the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek.
Ruby Tuesday

Ruby Tuesday shut down its last remaining suburban-Dayton location , just nine weeks after closing another of its local restaurants.
The national chain had operated a restaurant at 6425 Miller Lane in Vandalia since about 2005, but hand-lettered signs on the doors of that restaurant appeared advising guests, “CLOSED — please visit our Troy location,” which is now the closest Ruby Tuesday to Dayton.
This is the second permanent closure of a suburban-Dayton Ruby Tuesday’s in just over two months. A Ruby Tuesday spokeswoman confirmed to this news outlet on April 1 that its restaurant at 6061 Far Hills Ave. in the Washington Square Shopping Center in Washington Twp. had closed for good.
