Miami County middle-school student accused of making threat

WEST MILTON -- An eighth-grader was pulled from class at Milton-Union Middle School this morning after he was accused of making a statement about shooting another student.

Milton Union Police Officer Todd Daley said the boy is being charged with making a false alarm, which is a misdemeanor. The student has been suspended and sent home.

Daley said police searched the student's locker and did not find any weapon or evidence he had any weapons.

Another student reported the boy's statement before school Thursday morning, Daley said.

Dr. Brad Ritchey, superintendent, Milton-Union Exempted Village Schools, said, "we do not believe there is a safety concern or security risk" at the school Friday.

"We believe it's over and done with," Ritchey said Thursday afternoon. "It was verbal, inappropriate remarks, something that should not have been said at school."

Ritchey said the incident has been addressed with school discipline. He declined to get into specifics, but said the discipline was beyond “a mere conversation with the principal and assistant principal.”

He said, "We will continue to intervene with that student moving forward."
