Miami Twp. trustees OK moratorium on medical marijuana

UPDATE @ 9:01 p.m. (Aug. 23): Miami Twp. trustees voted 3-0 to approve a 6-month moratorium on medical marijuana.

FIRST REPORT (Aug. 22)

Miami Twp. is joining the growing list of area communities moving for a temporary ban on medical marijuana.

Township trustees are set Tuesday night to consider a six-month ban on issuing and processing permits for the drug, which will become legal for medicinal purposes in Ohio next month.

Beavercreek, Clayton, Miamisburg and Troy are among the area cities that have approved a similar measure.

The 180-day moratoriums are being sought, officials said, to see if communities need to adopt measures not outlined in how Ohio regulates the businesses.

Gov. John Kasich in June signed a bill approved the state legislature earlier this year after a statewide ballot issue proposing the legalization of marijuana for all purposes was defeated last year.
