Moraine looks to extend trash contract another year

Moraine is considering extending its solid waste collection agreement with Republic Services of Dayton through the end of next year.

The city opted to contract with the company more than two years ago, ending a longstanding relationship with Waste Management Inc.

A resolution set to go before Moraine City Council tonight calls for a one-year extension with Republic. The current contract runs through December with options for three more years, according to the city.

The 2014 agreement called for Republic to provide a year of services at $278,468 to the city’s estimated 1,900 residential customers.

Under the agreement with Waste Management, with whom the city contracted with for decades, the collection was on Thursdays. With Republic, collection has occurred on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. in city council chambers of the Moraine Municipal Building, 4200 Dryden Road.
