NAACP Dayton announces award recipients

DAYTON – The Dayton Unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is celebrating their 101st Anniversary of civil and human rights service with the organization’s 65th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet.

The event will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Dayton Convention Center.

The banquet will feature keynote speaker, Honorable Greg Mathis, retired Judge of Michigan 36th District Court and television personality. There will also be honorary chairs announced. They are Nnodum Iheme and Overseer Dr. Sharon Johnson.

The two receiving the President’s Award are Keith Alan Byars Sr. and Elder Dr. Alphonsa Foward Sr., posthumously. Foward passed away in 2007.

Immediately following the banquet, there will be a president’s reception in room #103 at the Convention Center. This will be open to the public.

Founded in 1915, the Dayton Unit of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the city’s oldest and largest nonpartisan civil rights organization. Its members throughout the Dayton Region and Montgomery County are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities. Their core goals are to Inform, Educate and Empower the Citizenry as they pursue justice and equality for all Americans.
