5 new Dayton-area restaurants; 7 on the way

The dining scene in Dayton saw a big change in the month of June.

There are nearly a dozen restaurants that either opened their doors or will be soon. With all of the new options, it may be time to bust out the stretch pants.

Here is a guide to all of the new, coming soon and changed restaurants in Dayton:

What's new?

>>Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen

Cheddar’s, in the Cornerstone of Centerville development on Wilmington Pike at Feedwire Road in Centerville, opened for business June 20.

This 8,640-square-foot, casual-dining restaurant offers smoked BBQ ribs, grilled salmon, chicken tenders, country-style fried chicken, salads and sandwiches.

>>Sky Asian Cuisine

The grand opening for Sky Asian Cuisine is June 30 at 4090 Wilmington Pike, south of Stroop Road.

This restaurant includes items from Japan, Thailand, and China on their menu and they also have a variety of sushi options.

>>Red Onion Bar & Grill

A new Red Onion Bar & Grill is moving into 214 S. Main St. in Monroe in Butler County, the same building where the same restaurant with a different owner was in business in 2014.

“They said the Red Onion did really well in the community, and they loved it, that’s why we chose to keep it the Red Onion Bar & Grill,” Shanae Revels, the owner of the future establishment said.

The menu will be the same as the Red Onion but with some additions.

>>Texas Beef and Cattle Co.

The Texas-grill inspired restaurant is at 1101 W. Third St. is having a grand opening June 30.

This restaurant specializes in authentic Texas mesquite-smoked brisket, pulled pork, sausages, chicken and more.

>>Rapid Fired Pizza

Rapid Fired Pizza will open its fourth Dayton-area location in Sugarcreek Twp. on Tuesday, June 7. LISA POWELL / STAFF

The newest location for the locally owned Rapid Fired pizza chain opened in early June at 6252 Wilmington Pike in Sugarcreek Twp.

Rapid Fired Pizza uses a Chipotle-style serving line where customers pick out the topping for their personal pizza.

The pie is then sent through a high temperature oven and cooked in just under three minutes.

>>Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is scheduled to open mid-summer on Wilmington Pike at Whipp Road in Centerville. MARK FISHER/STAFF

Freddy’s will open its first local restaurant at 5501 Wilmington Pike at Whipp Road, across from the Cornerstone of Centerville, in mid-summer.

The menu will include ground-beef burgers, Vienna Beef hot dogs and shoestring fries, along with various desert items.

>>PizzaFire

PizzaFire has six locations in the Cleveland-Akron area with one in suburban Columbus; PizzaFire will now be moving into the competitive Dayton market at 4325 Far Hills Ave. in Kettering.

This restaurant is expecting a late August opening and has a similar concept to that of locally owned Rapid Fired Pizza.

>>Bibibop Asian Grill

This restaurant with a Korean-inspired menu will open its doors on Brown Street, in October barring any delays, according to Bibibop spokeswoman Rachel Newbury.

The Columbus-based chain will occupy two suites adjacent to Potbelly in a retail strip that is also home to Fusian Sushi, El Rancho Grande, Smashburger, and Zombie Dogz in September.

>>Don Patron Mexican Grill

Don Patron is opening in July across from Wright State University in Beavercreek.

According to co-owner Everardo Ascencio, this restaurant is serving Mexican-style food from old family recipes and have a full-service bar.

>>Zombie Dogz

Four offerings from Dayton-based Zombie Dogz, which will open a restaurant near Brown and Stewart streets perhaps as early as September. CONTRIBUTED

The beloved food truck Zombie Dogz recently announced that they will open a bricks-and-mortar restaurant at 1200 Brown St. near UD.

The owners of Zombie Dogz is hoping to open their restaurant in September.

>>Archer’s Tavern

Kettering is welcoming the second location of Archer’s Tavern, opening as early as September at 2030 E. Dorothy Lane. Archer’s opened its Centerville location six years ago.

Archer’s co-founder Dan Apolito said workers have already installed a new roof to the building and paved the parking lot.

>>Fuyao Glass America Inc.

Fuyao is building a 8,000-square-foot restaurant for workers and employees at Encrete Lane and Fuyao Avenue (the former Hoyle Place). THOMAS GNAU/STAFF

Fuyao Glass America Inc. will soon offer authentic Chinese and global dishes for both employees and the public with a new restaurant located at their Moraine plant.

About $1 million will be invested into the restaurant, and it is expected to open in October.

What's new?

>>Tank's Bar & Grill

Tank’s Bar & Grill is hosting a wine dinner on Thursday, June 30 and will unveil a new menu next week. Photo from Tank’s Facebook page.

New food items will be unveiled early July, according to Tank’s Facebook page and there was change from boxed wine to bottled wine about nine months ago.

These alterations will also come with the addition of wine dinners, an event where guests can try featured wine and food.

Tank’s will host the wine dinners quarterly.

>>CK Take Away

The new lunch takeout spot featuring sandwiches and salads opened in late June on Wayne Avenue next to Sew Dayton, around the corner from its parent, Oregon District restaurant Corner Kitchen.
