The small piece of land—about three-tenths of an acre in size—is located at the corner of Oakwood and Schenck avenues. Weiskircher said a neighborhood-led initiative to turn the current green space into an “active” park for neighborhood children to has gained traction in the form of grants from Montgomery County and the city.

Montgomery County Solid Waste offered approximately $39,000 to help fund the project, with the city offering $18,500 if residents can raise another $10,000.

The park, which currently has only a bench, could have a swing set, trash receptacles, walking paths and other benches and amenities. Weiskircher said the goal is have the park completed in the fall.

“That’s what we’re shooting for,” Weiskircher said.

Over 90 residents received a notice for an informational meeting on the development, scheduled for 7 tonight at the Oakwood municipal building, 30 Park Ave.
