Citizens tried to help driver who died in crash on U.S. 35 in Perry Twp.

UPDATE @ 7:52 p.m.: Citizens performed CPR on the driver pronounced dead after his pickup truck struck a utility pole at U.S. 35 at Diamond Mill Road in Perry Twp., according to a statement from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office has not released the name of the 57-year-old man, noting the crash investigation is continuing.

Firefighter/paramedics at the scene said they believe the driver might have suffered a medical issue.

The sheriff’s preliminary investigation also shows the black Dodge Ram was westbound on U.S. 35 (West Third Street) when it went left of center and continued off the road until it hit the pole.

The coroner's office was contacting next of kin tonight and will not release the man's name until the notifications are complete.

UPDATE @ 4:40 p.m.:

Southbound Diamond Mill Road is closed at U.S. 35 until further notice because of the fatal single-vehicle crash.

One lane of northbound Diamond Mill Road and one lane on U.S. 35 East and West remain open.

A Montgomery County Coroner’s investigator has been dispatched.

INITIAL REPORT

A driver has reportedly died following a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 35 at South Diamond Mill Road in Jefferson Twp., according to firefighters.

The crash was reported about 3:30 p.m. and involves a smaller pickup truck that hit a utility pole, according to our crew on the scene.

Firefighter/paramedics believe the driver might have suffered a medical issue, according to reports from the scene.

Traffic is able to get through the intersection while crews investigate.
