ORIGINAL REPORT

Police continue to look for a shooter who left one person dead and fired once at two Dayton police officers who were in their cruiser, Dayton Maj. Eric Henderson said.

The two officers, who have not been identified by name, were not injured, he said.

According to the investigation so far, Henderson said, the two officers heard gunshots in the area of Groveland and McCabe avenues about 3 p.m.

The officers saw a person, who fired once in their direction, the major said. The officers then saw a body in the street and went to render aid to that person.

The officers did not return gunfire. The shooter eluded capture.

Henderson declined to say whether the police cruiser was hit by the gunfire. He also did not give any details about the person found shot to death.

"There's still a lot of work that needs to be done," he said. "We have two officers who were shot at."

Henderson offered a plea for the public to call 333-COPS (937-333-2677) or CrimeStoppers (937-222-7867) with any information.
