Police arrest suspect in Richmond, Ind. fatal stabbing

Richmond police have arrested a man in connection to the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old Indiana man last week.

James Dean Childers of Richmond was arrested in the city today for murder in connection with the stabbing of Austin Sparks on Jan. 15, according to a Richmond police department release.

Richmond police Lt. Curt Leverton said the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force helped with the investigation.

INITIAL REPORT (Jan. 16)

Richmond police said a man died at the hospital after he was stabbed early Sunday morning.

Officers and medics were dispatched to the 700 block of South F Street around 1:40 a.m. Sunday on reports of a stabbing, Richmond police said in a Facebook post.

Investigators said the victim, identified as Austin Sparks, was found lying on the sidewalk and was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Sparks’ age and last known address was not released.

Police the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation and were not immediately released.
