Police: Prosecutors to review April fatal Dayton dog attack

Dayton police plan to meet with the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office in early August regarding the fatal dog attack, which resulted in the death of Maurice Brown in April.

According to Dayton police spokeswoman Cara Zinski-Neace, “they will formally meet with the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office early next month.”

Brown was mauled to death by a pit bull during the early morning hours in the area of the 300 block of Middle Street.

According to a Dayton police report, the suspect is the dog’s owner.  Previously, police had

A 911 caller told the dispatcher he heard a man outside yelling for help and crying for about three to five minutes.

"Near Riverview Avenue there's a man outside yelling 'Jesus help me. Help me,'" the caller said to the dispatcher. "Sounds like he's in pain. He's yelling at the top of his lungs. All the dogs are barking."

Potential charges in a fatal dog attack could range from control of animal to felony offenses.

"The injuries were pretty severe from the dog itself," Dayton police Lt. Andrew Booher said in April, adding the dog was still attacking the man when officers arrived on scene. "This isn't something that ordinarily happens."
