UPDATE @ 3 p.m.

A New Paris man pleaded guilty today as part of an agreement with Darke County prosecutors regarding a deadly crash he caused in June 2016, according to a report from the Early Bird newspaper.

Aaron Holmes, 32, pleaded guilty to felonious assault, aggravated vehicular assault and a misdemeanor intoxicated driving charge, according to the Early Bird’s report.

Investigators determined that on June 28, 2016, Holmes traveled over the center line on Ohio 571 and struck a vehicle driven by a Greenville man who then lost control of his vehicle and careened into the vehicle traveling behind Holmes.

The third vehicle was driven by 61-year-old Linda Stebbins, who was pronounced dead after firefighters worked to extricate her from the wreckage at the scene.

As part of the plea agreement, Holmes will serve two years in prison, with 71 days jail credit, and will be put on community control upon release. A seven-year suspended sentence could be imposed if Holmes violates the terms of his probation, according to the Early Bird’s report.

UPDATE @ 1:00 a.m. (June 2016)

A Greenville woman is dead after a three-vehicle, head-on crash in the 4100 block of Ohio 571 West, the Darke County Sheriff’s Department said in a release.

Deputies said an initial investigation found a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 31-year-old Aaron Holmes, of New Paris, was traveling eastbound on Ohio 571 when the vehicle went left of center. The Impala hit head-on with a 1999 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, driven by 18-year-old Ryan Sanders of Greenville, who was traveling westbound on Ohio 571.

Deputies said the first collision caused a chain-reaction that sent Sanders’ pickup into the path of a 2002 Toyota Corolla, driven by 61-year-old Linda Stebbins, of Greenville, who was traveling behind Holmes’ vehicle.

Deputies said Stebbins was trapped in her car and was pronounced dead at the scene when crews arrived just after 5 p.m. Tuesday. A front-seat passenger in Stebbins’ car, Jessica Keily, 34, of Union City, was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital and is listed in fair condition.

Sanders was treated at the scene and taken to Wayne Hospital in Greenville. According to police, Holmes refused treatment at the scene, and the reason for his veering left of center is under investigation.
