Riverside city council tables vote on land sale for medical marijuana

UPDATE @ 9:30 p.m. (Sept. 7): The Riverside city council tabled an ordinance to sell land to a medical marijuana business.

After a 50-minute executive session tonight, which was abruptly added to the meeting agenda earlier in the day, the council emerged and quickly voted unanimously to table the legislation.

"There are some legal issues that we have just found out about," Mayor Bill Flaute said. "Sorry folks, we just want to make sure we're going to do it right."

The legislation to sell three acres to the Farms of Riverside LLC can be reconsidered in the future.

Councilman Ken Curp was not in attendance.

EARLIER REPORT

Riverside city council will consider selling three acres of real estate to a medical marijuana business at tonight’s meeting.

The proposal is to sell land at the Center of Flight to Farms of Riverside, LLC.

In July, Riverside city council delayed a vote on whether to sell seven acres of city-owned land to Farms of Riverside for a proposed marijuana cultivation site seeking approval from the state.

At the time, Riverside City Manager Mark Carpenter said the city has long looked for a use for the vacant property, and the indoor cultivation facility — which would need to be built — could bring 50 to 70 jobs.

The business meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Riverside Administrative Offices, 5200 Springfield Street, Suite 100.
