Robert Redford movie may film in Hamilton

A movie being produced by Robert Redford may film scenes in Hamilton, according to officials with Film Hamilton.

Representatives of the movie are scouting possible locations in the city for Redford’s film, which is in the early stages of production, Film Hamilton’s Steve Colwell told the Journal-News.

“They are scouting the area and Film Hamilton has been helping them look at different locations to shoot some scenes at,” Colwell said. “They like some of the locations here.”

In July 2016, Ohio Gov. John Kasich increased the tax incentive that Ohio offers for film projects to be produced in Ohio from $20 million a year to $40 million a year for the next two years.

The legislation helps Film Hamilton and Ohio attract movies to the area. The motion picture tax incentive returns $2.01 into the Ohio economy for every $1 invested by the incentive.

Alayna Jackson, an employee at Municipal Brew Works, said cast members and movie crews have visited the local business in the past during filming.

“It’s amazing and definitely brings a lot of light to Hamilton …,” she said. “We had James Franco and the cast from his biker movie come in here. It was exciting.”

A movie being produced by Emilio Estevez, which has a cast that includes Alec Baldwin, will begin production in Cincinnati this month, according to Kristen Schlotman, executive director of Film Cincinnati.

“Over the past few years, Emilio Estevez has been a tireless ambassador for Film Cincinnati. With our unique architecture, hospitality, home-grown talent and state tax credits, our region has become a frequent resource for the film industry, and Emilio has helped us tell this story,” Schlotman said.

The film, “The Public,” centers around a standoff with police and library officials when library patrons, many of whom are homeless and mentally ill, stage a sit-in. Parts of the movie will be filmed at the Cincinnati Public Library, she said.

There is likely to be a call for extras for the movie, according to Film Cincinnati, but additional information is not yet available.
