Roger Luring retiring at month’s end

Roger Luring, a Miami County Board of Elections member since fall 2003 and its chair since early 2004, told fellow board members Feb. 6 it has been an honor to serve.

Luring, a Democrat, is retiring at month’s end. He said the board’s goals were to fully enfranchise voters, keep voters informed, properly allow candidates access to the ballot and run the office on a sound, financial basis.

“Our most precious right to vote cannot happen without dedicated staff and hundreds of volunteer poll workers that make the system work,” Luring said.

Board members Kelly Gillis and Robert Huffman Jr. thanked Luring for his service. Huffman, a Republican, said Luring always did his homework and kept the board “focus on free and fair elections.”
