Grand Lake and Havemann Roads will remain closed Monday as emergency crews assess damages, according to a post on the City of Celina’s Facebook page.

An apparent tornado caused significant damage to buildings and property mainly on the east side of town.

UPDATE @ 11:15 p.m. 11/5/17

Mayor Jeffrey Hazel has declared a State of Emergency for the City of Celina after two possible tornadoes ripped through the Mercer County city Sunday.

In a release, Celina police said a tornado entered the city from the southwest, causing damage to a home along Lakeshore Drive before crossing Grand Lake and damaging multiple businesses including Wendy’s, Lakeshore Auto, Crown Equipment, Dollar General and C-Town Wings among others.

Celina police said eight people within the city limits were treated for non-life threatening injuries, with four being transported to area hospitals.

Off-duty officers and emergency crews responded to the scene with crews from Montezuma, Rockford, Mendon and Chickasaw assisting in recovery efforts.

Officers said Mayor Jeff Hazel and Ohio State Senator Keith Faber directly assisted with the ongoing emergency with Senator Faber providing additional propane tanks to keep power running throughout the night at Celina Police Command Center.

Those living in and near Celina are encouraged to stay away from affected areas as crews continue to work to clean up debris, according to the release.
