Man sought in Riverside shooting still at large; armed, dangerous, officials say

UPDATE @ 11:09 a.m. (01/06/18): A man considered armed and dangerous by officials after he is believed to be involved in a shooting that occurred in Riverside, is still at large.

Charles Dameron, 33, is not listed in custody on the Greene County Jail website.

He eluded police late Friday night after deputies tried to stop him on U.S. 35 East. Officials searched the area, but were unsuccessful in locating Dameron.

However, the vehicle he was driving was found with a small child inside, unharmed, in Xenia.

There is an active felony warrant for Dameron’s arrest and he is wanted for questioning in the Riverside shooting.

He was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, a dark colored jacket with a fur lined hood.

UPDATE @ 11:20 p.m.: Police are continuing their search for Charles Dameron, 33, who eluded police earlier tonight when a Greene County Sheriff's deputy tried to stop him on U.S. 35 East.

He is considered armed and dangerous, officials said.

There is an active felony warrant for Dameron’s arrest and he’s also wanted for questioning in a shooting in Riverside early Friday morning.

Deputies last saw him driving east on U.S. 35 toward Xenia. There was also information Dameron had a small child -- not his own -- in the back seat of the vehicle when he fled.

At 7 p.m., Xenia police officers located the vehicle North Richard Drive in Xenia. The vehicle was running and the child was found inside, unharmed.

The child has been returned to the parents.

Authorities have released no other details about the child or the shooting.

Dameron was seen hiding behind a shed on Berwald Drive and ran from officers.

Xenia police, county deputies, a Beavercreek K-9 officer and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (including its Air Unit) searched the area, but were not able to locate Dameron.

He was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, a dark colored jacket with a fur lined hood.

The search for a man Riverside police believe is involved in a criminal case there spread to Xenia tonight and triggered a manhunt in this Greene County city involving several law enforcement agencies.

Residents in the area of Bingham and Richard drives have been told to shelter in place until further notice, according to a Xenia police dispatcher.

We're also hearing that the Ohio State Highway Patrol has been using a helicopter as part of the manhunt.

We're working to confirm information about the manhunt, but we're hearing that the Greene County Sheriff's Office and Xenia police also are assisting Riverside police.

We’ve learned there has been a debriefing at Xenia police headquarters, but that information would not be released tonight.
