UPDATE 2:50 p.m. (Feb 23):

Edward Muldrew was indicted today on two counts of rape and one count each of kidnapping, grand theft and felonious assault. He remains in custody and his scheduled arraignment on the charges has been set for February 28.

EARLIER REPORT:

A 27-year-old Dayton man is accused of rape, robbery and a kidnapping on West Second Street 11 days ago that began with his asking a woman for a ride home from the Oregon District.

Edward Muldrew remains in the Montgomery County Jail on $500,000 bail on two counts of rape and single counts of kidnapping, aggravated robbery and theft.

Police determined in their investigation of the West Second Street rape and assault that Muldrew is a registered sex offender from a Butler County case and is on parole for failing to notify authorities of his offender status.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, Muldrew on Feb. 4 asked the victim for a ride to his house from the Oregon District. He then directed her to an alley behind the 1500 block of West Second Street, where he put a knife to her throat and choked her.

Muldrew then bit her on the shoulder, cut her shirt off and raped her.

He forced her to drive him to a bank where he had her withdraw money from her account.

While continuing to drive Muldrew throughout Dayton, the woman jumped from her vehicle at Paul Laurence Dunbar and West Third streets and sought help from someone in a passing car.

Police recovered her car near Muldrew's residence on Shoop Avenue.

Muldrew was arrested Feb. 8 in the 3200 block of Hoover Avenue in Dayton by the county adult parole authority officers and booked into jail. He is due in court Feb. 23.
