A 25-year-old Springfield man was shot in the lower back outside a home in the 1400 block of South Center Boulevard, Sgt. David Emmel said.
The man’s injuries are “potentially life threatening,” the sergeant said. “He was transported from the scene by Springfield Fire Division medics (to Springfield Regional Hospital) and then from there flown to Miami Valley Hospital.”
The shot that hit the victim is believed to be the only shot fired, Emmel said.
“We have several witnesses that heard a shot being fired,” he said.
Emmel urged anyone with information to call police.

A 25-year-old man was shot in the back and suffered life-threatening injuries today, according to Springfield police Sgt. David Emmel.
Officers responded to a shots fired call and found the victim in or near the 1400 block of South Center Boulevard.
A friend of the victim attempted to take him to the hospital but he was stopped by police and the victim was taken by life squad, Emmel said.
There have been no arrests and no information about a possible suspect has been released.

Police in Springfield are investigating a shooting that reportedly happened in the 1400 block of South Center Boulevard.
Crime scene tape is up around the scene after a gunshot victim was taken from there to the hospital.
