Don’t let the new 650-calorie Quesarito or the 710-calorie Breakfast Crunchwrap fool you: Taco Bell is one of the healthiest of all fast food chains.

This is according to Taco Bell and Business Insider reporter Kate Taylor.

Taylor might know. She's been investigating.

"Clearly, nutrition-savvy advances can coexist with products that few would put on their diet plans. In my own personal experience, after a week of eating nothing but fast food, Taco Bell was one of the best chains around to find healthy options," she wrote in a story that appeared on the San Francisco Chronicle website SFGate.

Non-heart smart things next to those that are pretty healthy? What a concept.

Taylor points out healthier options from Taco Bell's lower-calorie Fresco menu, the high-protein Cantana menu and the chain’s vegetarian menu, which has been certified by the American Vegetarian Association.

Taco Bell had said it would switch to cage free-eggs by 2017 and cut artificial ingredients.

Taylor interviewed Taco Bell dietitian and product developer Missy Nelson.

“We just really encourage people to customize to however it fits their lifestyle," Nelson said.
