Woman dies from injuries after head-on crash in Dayton

A woman died from her injuries shortly after a head-on crash in Dayton Friday, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger.

Sylvia Bell, 60, of Dayton, died at Miami Valley Hospital soon after being transported from the scene of the crash at Philadelphia Drive and Princton Drive. Her preliminary cause of death has not been determined and remains under investigation.

Dayton police and medics originally responded to a report of a crash with at least one person trapped inside at around 12:45 p.m.

At the scene, police found a black Mazda car had collided with a white work van. According to Dayton police, the Mazda had traveled left of center and crashed head-on into the van.

Bell, who was driving the Mazda, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, while the driver of the van received a neck injury and received treatment at the scene.

Factors in the crash are under investigation, but police are investigating if Bell suffered a medical issue prior to the crash.

A crash reconstruction team was called, and the crash continues to be under investigation.
