Troopers stop Michigan driver, seize 5 pounds of hydroponic pot

A Michigan driver following too closely to the car ahead was arrested after troopers said they found five pounds of marijuana inside his car.

When troopers stopped the car around 9:30 p.m. Feb. 16 on Interstate 75 in Miami County, they became suspicious and brought a drug-sniffing K-9, which alerted to the vehicle. A search yielded five vacuum-sealed bags of hydroponic pot in a suitcase in the trunk, troopers said. The marijuana had a street value of $13,750, OSP said. In hydroponic systems, the marijuana is grown in a mixture of water and nutrients that directly feeds the roots.

The suspect, Bruce E. Carter Jr., 31, of Clarkston, Mich., was booked into the Miami County Jail on suspicion of possession of marijuana and possession of criminal tools, both felonies. He will next appear in court Thursday afternoon, according to online court records.
