Troy streets to close for Tour de Donut, music festivals

TROY - The city of Troy will close several streets in the downtown area some beginning Friday, Sept. 15, to accommodate activities associated with the Tour De Donut bicycling event Saturday, Sept. 16, and the Rock the Bike Music Festival on Friday evening and Saturday.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Friday, the city will close the Public Square southeast quadrant and the city metered area of the North Cherry Street parking lot.

At noon Friday, the Public Square area will be closed including Market from Water to Canal; Main from Mulberry to Plum; North Cherry from West Main to alley behind Mayflower building; South Cherry from alley next to parking lot to West Main; North Walnut from Main to Redman’s; South Walnut from Main to alley behind Troy Cabinet; and parking lot next to the Troy Rec on North Market.

The Tour De Donut bicycling event spans 16 miles, 32 miles or 64 miles. Over 2,500 bicyclists are expected to come into the area. Each donut a participant eats takes off five minutes from their race time.

On Saturday beginning at 7 a.m., North Market will be closed from the Public Square to Staunton Road and Water Street from North Oxford to Mulberry. Following the Tour De Donut ride, or around 1 p.m., North Market will be opened from Water to Staunton and Water will reopen.

The following will be closed from 7 a.m. Saturday until around midnight: South Cherry from Franklin to West Main; North Cherry from Mayflower alley to Water; North Walnut from Redman’s to Water; South Walnut from Troy Cabinet to East Franklin; South Plum from Main to parking lot; West Main by Courthouse; North Walnut, west side from Redman’s to East Main; and West Main from sheriff’s office parking to shuttle bus stop.
