Two struck during alleged vehicular assault in Dayton

Two men were struck by a car outside of a Dayton bar allegedly by a driver who was denied service, a police report states.

At 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Dayton police were called to the Paradise Key Cafe on the 3400 block of Needmore Road about a vehicular assault.

Two men told police they were struck but not seriously injured by a Ford Taurus as it fled the business’ parking lot.

The victims said a 21-year-old Dayton resident and his friend entered the bar and grille at 3:30 a.m., after it was closed, and became belligerent after being denied service.

The two men yelled at a woman in the parking lot and urinated in public, causing staff to again confront them, the report states.

The 21-year-old got behind the wheel of a gold Taurus and accelerated toward the men, striking one in the arm by the car’s front end and hitting the other with the driver’s side mirror, the report states.

The victims provided police with the car’s license plate and a photo of the driver.

Police visited the home of the registered owner and found a gold Taurus with a broken side mirror.

Police spoke with the two suspects, who claimed they had been sleeping at the apartment for hours.

Police said one suspect told the other, while being led out the apartment laughing, “Just don’t say anything, bro,” the report states.

The driver was taken to jail and trespassed from the bar. The vehicle was towed and taken as evidence in the felonious assault investigation, the report states.
