Union president seeks to dismiss RTA trespass case

A local union leader has filed a motion to dismiss his criminal trespass case involving the Greater Dayton RTA.

Glenn Salyer, president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1385, faces a misdemeanor criminal trespass charge stemming from an August arrest at the regional transit authority’s Wright Stop Plaza.

An attorney for Salyer, 62, of Huber Heights, filed a motion Tuesday to dismiss the case in Dayton Municipal Court. Salyer has entered a not guilty plea.

In January, a contract disagreement between ATU Local 1385 and the RTA crippled the system during a four-day bus and trolley strike.

Salyer was arrested Aug. 11 by Dayton police at RTA’s Wright Stop Plaza after a dispute with bus security about the bus authority’s property line and whether he could distribute literature where he stood.

Several RTA executives and employees, including CEO Mark Donaghy, who says he was not directly involved in the incident, have been served subpoenas as part of the case, according to court records.

The next court date in Salyer’s case is Feb. 28.
