VIDEO: Xenia cop joins schoolyard basketball game

Damyan Steelman said when he and others saw a Xenia police officer pull up while they were playing basketball at Cox Elementary School on Saturday, they thought, “we did something wrong.”

The youths walked over to Ellyn Board’s cruiser and asked what the problem was. She told them nothing and smiled.

Then to their surprise, she agreed to join them on the court.

Steelman said he wanted to get the video out there to show people that “not all cops are bad.”

Ellyn Board is a 19-year veteran at the Xenia Police Department and works as a day-side patrol officer, Xenia Sgt. Gary Johnson confirmed.

Johnson’s tagline on email messages seems to sum it up nicely. It reads, “Life is not about how much you accomplish. It's about how many people you help along the way.”
