WNKU 105.9 sold to religious broadcasting company

WNKU — The Northern Kentucky University radio station whose broadcasts stretch to the Miami Valley — was sold today for $1.9 million to the Bible Broadcasting Company.

The radio station dedicated itself to giving local musicians from Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus and Northern Kentucky a platform to get their music heard.

WNKU also featured popular Sunday evening programs The Real Mary Peale Show and Music from the Hills of Home with Katie Laur and Oakley Scot.

The university’s board of regents voted on the sale today and cited the station’s cumulative budget deficits from 2011 to 2016, which had grown to $2.6 million, despite receiving a total subsidy of $1.8 million during that period, according to a report from our news partner WCPO-Ch. 9 in Cincinnati.

The sale is pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission.
