Wooden donation box stolen during mass at Dayton church

A woman was arrested after she was accused of stealing a donation box from St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Sunday morning.

Police responded to the church at 310 Allen Street after someone saw people smashing the box in the 400 block of Xenia Avenue around 8:20 a.m., according to a Dayton police report.

When police went to the church, people at the church noticed the donation box, which was used to collect donations for St. Vincent de Paul, was missing, the report said.

April Green, 46, was captured on surveillance video taking the donation box, according to the report.

While being transported to jail Green said the box had $45 in it, the report said.

A man that was said to be smashing the box on the ground also was arrested for receiving stolen property and unrelated drug charges, when police found a marijuana cigarette in his pocket. He was not identified.
