Xenia school tax: Official results released from special election

Results from the Aug. 8 special election have been certified by the elections board, and the Xenia school bond issue failed by a margin of nearly 15 percent.

The final results show of 5,807 votes cast, 2,476 voters, or 42.64 percent, were in favor of the 4.2-mill, 37-year tax and 3,331, or 57.36 percent, voted against it, the Greene County Board of Elections announced today.

In conjunction with the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission, the bond issue would have paid for a new school building to house Warner Middle and Xenia High students, replacing those two aging buildings, a project estimated at more than $80 million.

After three defeats at the polls, district officials have no immediate plans to pursue another ballot issue and are using available monies to address improvements at Warner Middle and Xenia High School.
