Madison Twp. home previously used for bear wrestling to be razed

The Butler County land bank approved funding a new demolition this week — a home in Madison Twp. that used to be the place where a man would wrestle his bear in the fenced-in yard.

The house in the 8100 block of Meyers Road used to house a family and their bear, but it was abandoned about three and a half years ago by the man who was known as Mr. Bear, according to Madison Twp. Administrator Todd Farler.

“He wrestled the bear in Madison Twp.,” he said. “He was somebody that if you had an event going on at the high school or whatever the guy would bring his bear out and wrestle the bear. It was actually a pretty well known family and for some reason suddenly they just up and disappeared.”

The land bank agreed to pick up the $10,500 tab to clear the property.
