A Covington teen convicted of five counts of robbery with firearm specifications was sent to prison for four years after a sentencing hearing Tuesday in Miami County Common Pleas Court.

Christian Triplett, 17, was charged following an October dispute over money with other teens in Piqua.

Triplett was accused of possessing a firearm during the robbery Piqua police said took place after one man accused Triplett of stealing $100 from his wallet. One of the robbery victims was injured when he fell and hit his head.

Triplett pleaded guilty in December as part of a plea deal in which the four years was recommended.

Triplett was accused of robbing the other teens at gunpoint. A struggle ensued and the gun fired with the bullet going into the ground.

"Everyone involved was fortunate there was not a different outcome," said Ryan Spitzer, assistant county prosecutor.

Triplett told Judge Jeannine Pratt he was sorry for his actions and was heavily into drugs at the time.

"It took over my mind and it made me think it was all that mattered," he said.

The judge heard remarks from the teens robbed through comments made in court and written statements. They talked about how the incident made them fearful and less willing to go out among others.

"Your actions, your crime have had a lasting impact. Your cavalier attitude over $100 is concerning," Pratt  told Triplett. "This leads me to believe you have little concern for human life."

The case was filed in Miami County Juvenile Court before being transferred to the adult court.

Triplett was ordered to pay $1,108 in restitution to victims.
