Miamisburg joins list of local schools seeking tax issues

Miamisburg is the latest file in Montgomery County for a school levy to appear on the fall ballot.

The Miamisburg City School District’s 8.65-mill, five-year emergency renewal issue is among 10 school tax issue requests submitted ahead of today’s deadline for most jurisdictions to have issues appear on the Nov. 7 ballot, according to the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

Kettering, Moraine and Riverside have until Aug. 24 to file, according to the elections board’s website.

If approved, Miamisburg’s levy would not increase taxes, continuing to cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 about $265 a year, according to the county auditor’s office.

The levy last approved in 2012 has generated $6.77 million annually for operations, according to the school district.

Other school levies filed, according to the board of elections, include:

-Three issues for the Miami Valley Career Technology Center: a 0.8-mill bond issue, and a 0.29-mill bond issue; and a 0.34-mill additional.

-Beavercreek, a 6.0-mill, substitute;

-Kettering, a 4.89-mill, continuing renewal;

-New Lebanon, a 7.0-mill, five-year renewal;

-New Lebanon, a five-year, permanent improvement renewal;

-Springboro, a 7.4-mill substitute;

-Vandalia-Butler, a 6.99-mill renewal.
