Middletown, Monroe road project opening 3 months ahead of schedule

Good weather has enabled contractors to complete a new road — that will improve truck traffic in Monroe and Middletown — about three months early.

The Salzman Road extension between Ohio 63 and Todhunter Road, is expected to be open to through traffic Sept. 8, according to David Spinney, executive director of the Butler County Transportation Improvement District.

The project, in which the cities of Monroe and Middletown partnered with the BCTID, will transform a dead-end road into a major through road for heavy truck traffic as a more direct route to Ohio 4 and Interstate 75.

The road extension will also pull heavy truck traffic off of nearby Yankee Road, where it passes the Monroe school campus.

Spinney said it will it be up to the city of Monroe to decide the date it will open.

“I think the last things that need to be completed are seed, straw and signs,” he said.

Spinney said the road striping should be completed within the next week or so.

The BCTID coordinated the design and funding for the $1.81 million project with the cities of Middletown and Monroe.
