Wright State University students inside the debate hall at Hofstra University Monday night got to see some real fireworks as Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton had their first face-to-face debate of the election season.

“Wonderful opportunity to see democracy in action!”
“The divide between conservatives and liberals was apparent in the audience.”
Eric Whitt, Fairborn, electrical engineering major
“The new format of this debate was a welcomed change.”
“I feel that both Trump and Hillary have made contact with their viewers. While I stay undecided I do feel that the lead may have swayed in Hillary’s favor. As I can tell Trump attempted to make his best effort to convey his ideas logically, he would get off subject and result (in) a not fact-based defense.”

“I think that each candidate could’ve answered their questions with more subsistence than they did.”
“Also the loud crowd was extremely saddening.”

“I thought Hillary sounded very rehearsed and was focused on making jokes toward Trump. I thought Trump dropped the ball on this one. There were problems with his mic so he was hard to hear but I don’t think tonight was the time or place to act arrogant.”
