10-alarm fire in Cambridge, Mass. as eight buildings burn

A massive fire has engulfed eight buildings in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday, with 10 area fire departments battling the blaze.

The Boston Globe reported the first fire started on Berkshire St. in Cambridge before engulfing several buildings, including a three-bedroom family home, a home undergoing  renovations, and a church.

Flaming debris blew across the street due to 25 mph winds, causing more buildings to catch fire as well as a car. Smoke poured from the neighborhood, as one witness told the Globe the scene resembled the wildfires that often occur in the west.

The Northeast has suffered from a drought this year, with Cambridge spending millions to bring in water for the city and residents.
