Andy Cohen says Kelly Ripa was first to spot his skin cancer

During a Friday segment of "Live with Kelly," guest-host Andy Cohen revealed that doctors told him a black dot on his lip was a form of cancer.

Cohen said Kelly Ripa was the first person to notice the mark on his lip and that she repeatedly encouraged him to see a doctor about it.

"I had this black dot on my bottom lip ... and you said, 'You have a black dot on your lip. I don't think that's good something good,'" Cohen told Ripa. "And you were dogmatic that I get it checked out."

Ripa, who noticed the dot on Cohen's lip at a party in April, said she and her husband had never seen the mark on Cohen's face before.

Cohen said he didn't get it checked by a doctor because he was "sure it (was) nothing."

But Ripa kept urging Cohen to get the mark looked at.

"Finally I did, and it was melanoma," Cohen said.

Cohen, who called himself a "tanorexic" person who loves the sun, later got the cancer removed. He said the melanoma changed the way he exposes his skin to the sun.

"Thank you for staying on me," Cohen told Ripa.

The "Live!" host joked that she spends so much money on dermatology visits that she has acquired a lot of information about skin. She said that she has spotted skin cancer on friends three times.
