Ben Carson: Barack Obama was 'raised white'

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said Tuesday that President Barack Obama was "raised white."

“For him to, you know, claim that, you know, he identifies with the experience of black Americans, I think, is a bit of a stretch,” Carson said.

Carson said his experience growing up and Obama’s were “night-and-day different.”

Carson made the comments during an interview with POLITICO's Off Message podcast on Tuesday. You can listen to it here.

“He’s an ‘African’ American. He was, you know, raised white,” Carson said.

“Like most Americans, I was proud that we broke the color barrier when he was elected, but … he didn’t grow up like I grew up … Many of his formative years were spent in Indonesia.”

Carson, who was raised by a single mother in Detroit who worked multiple jobs, implied that he knows the struggle of Black Americans more than Obama.
