The Associated Press contributed to this report.

A New Jersey man jumped from a bridge Monday night while holding his young children, according to investigators.

John Spincken was arguing with his wife when he took off Monday night with their sons ages 1 and 3, threatening to harm them and himself, authorities said.

Spincken's wife called police. State troopers found him around 8 p.m. at mile marker 56 along I-287, where they found his abandoned SUV near a bridge.

Police said Spincken, 37, scaled a "suicide prevention" fence along the bridge before jumping 100 feet into the water with the boys in his arms, according to WABC.

His body was found in the woods near the river. The boys were found nearby.

Pequannock police Capt. Christopher DePuyt said the department had no previous calls involving the family.

The boys are expected to recover. One of the boys suffered a collapsed lung and the other had a spinal injury. They are in a hospital intensive care unit, according to WNBC.

Police continue to investigate.
