New bagel shop shoots for March opening of 1st Dayton-area location

The franchise owners bringing Barry Bagels restaurants to the Miami Valley are shooting for a March opening for their first Dayton-area bagel shop, which is coming to 4313 Far Hills Ave. in Kettering.

“We are working closely with our architect and general contractor to add the finishing touches to our layout and design,” said Cody Klueter, who is joined by Eric and Jennifer Fester as franchisees for the restaurant. “Construction will begin shortly, and we are eagerly anticipating a March opening date.”

The 1,800-square-foot restaurant is part of a Toledo’ based chain that serves bagels and bagel sandwiches, along with soups and salads. The new restaurant will offer delivery and catering, and will employ about 20.

Barry Bagels operates seven restaurants in northern and central Ohio, as well as two in Michigan. Plans call for more Dayton-area Barry Bagels restaurants, but, “We have not yet secured additional locations,” Klueter said.

Klueter said the choice of the Far Hills Avenue space adjacent to Firehouse Subs — it formerly housed a Sumera Sushi eatery — “was a no-brainer.

“It is a busy stretch of Far Hills, an already thriving lunch destination, and most importantly, a location allowing us to serve multiple communities, especially Oakwood and Kettering — cities in which my partners and I live and want to see thrive.”
