New coffee shop to open Monday in Washington Twp.

Winans also applies for license to serve wine at its chocolate & coffee shop at The Greene

Winans Fine Chocolates & Coffee will open its Far Hills Avenue shop in Washington Twp. on Monday, Aug. 17, and the growing local chain also has applied for a license to sell wine at its store at The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek, Winans officials said this morning.

Winans also is seeking to add wine sales to the its newest shop, located in the former Caribou Coffee/Peet’s Coffee shop space at 5839 Far Hills Ave. (Ohio 48) near Whipp Road. The shop had been vacant since July 2014, when Peet’s Coffee shut its doors.

Customers who are accustomed to a coffee-only shop will have be able to buy chocolates and other candy in the new store, said Brian Sharp, director of stores for Winans Dayton. Workers also made improvements to the patio in front of the store, fencing it in and adding umbrellas.

The chocolate and coffee shop has a drive-through window in addition to seating for 22 inside and another 14 on the patio, Sharp said. It will open with nine employees.

Two of this region’s Winans locations — near the Dayton Mall in Miami Twp. and near the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek — already offer wines by the glass or bottle in addition to chocolates and coffees. The chain has applied to add wines to both its store at The Greene and to the new Washington Twp. location.

“Wine has been successful for us at our Dayton Mall and Beavercreek locations, not only for retail bottle sales, but also for our chocolate and wine pairings” that the shops can offer customers, Sharp said.

The new Far Hills Avenue store is the 14th location overall for the Miami County-based Winans, and the sixth for the Winans Dayton franchise group.
